Collaborative Analysis Prompt

3.1. Formatting

You will need to combine email formatting and abstract formatting when putting together your draft. While both are concise, an abstract is more formal than an email and includes a specific argument – in this case, the problem you aim to help the company solve by identifying the root of the problem.

Your email will look something like this:

Research Proposal for Collaborative Analysis

Dear Ms. Cheslow,

The research proposal part of this assignment will be sent to me via email from a single group member. That person should also cc the rest of their team so everyone knows the document got in on time or that someone should take matters into their own hands if it hasn’t. This proposal should be around 500 words and outline the resources, audiences, problems, and solutions that will be a part of your analysis in the SWOT Report. You might consider using this as an outline:

  1. Name the organization you’ve chosen and why.
    1. Is there a particular facet of the organization that interests you more than others? You might, for example, focus on how Wendy’s uses social media or how Dr. Bronner’s environmental vision guides their company.
    2. What is your perspective of the organization given the little research you’ve done up to this point? Do they seem to be thriving or struggling? What makes you want to explore them in depth?
  2. Identify your likely research methods.
    1. Research is an organic process that will reveal itself as you complicate your inquiries. Still, you should have a sense of where to start. What sort of information would you like to get and where do you hope to find it?
    2. For example, if you want to do a breakdown of a company’s social media usage to see how they develop their presence, you can go right to Instagram and see their followers, interactions, contacts, etc. Or maybe you’re more interested in an academic consideration of the company. In that case, you might consider the Library’s business databases, which are linked here. Any project will probably include sources from each of these categories
  3. Anticipate any difficulties you might have in research or writing.
    1. What will you do if you can’t find the information you’re looking for?
    2. How will you go about incorporating your research into this collaboratively written SWOT Report?
  4. State your project’s ambitions.
    1. What is the desired outcome of your project? Will the organization have a better sense of where they can develop their business? Will they learn where they could reallocate their time and attention to strengthen their organization?

Best,
